Make A Difference – #4

4. Recycle. Recycle. Recycle.
Ok. This does not have the unexpected, WOW factor that I like. But its impact factor is amazing:
- If every household reused a paper grocery bag for one shopping trip, about 60,000 trees would be saved.
- We save 17 trees for each ton of recycled newspaper.
- Americans throw away enough aluminum every month to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
- Every month, we throw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper. All of these jars are recyclable!
- A typical family consumes 182 gallons of pop, 29 gallons of juice, 104 gallons of milk, and 26 gallons of bottled water a year. That’s a lot of containers — make sure they’re recycled!
Most major cities make recycling easy with curbside pick-up. Even if you have to drive bags of cans, jars and paper to a recycler, it is worth it. Maybe you can talk the guy with a pick-up into carpooling so that only 1 vehicle makes the trip!
